Most of the laparoscopic cholecystectomy performed on a daycare basis (patient can return home on the same day). Dr. Varun Kumar J is the best laparoscopic surgeon for gallstone surgery in Bangalore.
What is Gallstone?
The gallbladder is a small pear-shaped organ located in between the chest (upper right abdomen) and under the hips (below the liver). It releases the bile, to help digestion. Gallstones (stonelike objects) form when cholesterol or bilirubin develops too much in bile ducts. Size of a gallstone range from sand to golf ball. It can be a single large stone or plenty of tiny stones (Both large stones and small stones). The gallstones can cause pain in the upper right part of the abdomen. This pain (called a gallbladder attack or biliary colic) occurs when gallstones block the duct’s biliary tract.
Laparoscopic Gallstone removing
Laparoscopic surgery is known for minimally invasive procedures as it uses several small incisions instead of large ones. A laparoscope is a narrow tube with a very small camera. The camera allows the doctor to see gallbladder on a TV screen.
Cause of Gallstone
Gallstones are formed because of an imbalance in the substances (chemical) that make up bile in the gallbladder. When bile contains high levels of cholesterol, enough salt, or bilirubin, and high level of cholesterol forms into stones.
Two types of gallstones are cholesterol and pigment stone.
- Cholesterol stones are yellow-green in colour and will be hardened cholesterol.
- Pigment stones are dark in colour and made of bilirubin.
Other factors are:
- Obesity: Obesity increases cholesterol in bile. Especially seen in females.
